On the 51st episode of Horie Yui’s solo radio show, Horie Yui no Tenshi no Tamago, the staff celebrated her birthday by preparing a set of surprises for her. One of the surprises was decorating the room with flags, posters and other fanfare, to which she was screeching in surprise at the start of the radio when she walked into the booth. The second was presents, which included a bottle of champagne to drink on the show and the final one was… Mystery phone calls connecting her to listeners of the radio show.

Well most of them were listeners of the show at least…

This is from /quite/ a while ago on September the 21st on 2003 with Horie Yui just reaching her 27th birthday. [Or the tenth aniversary of her 17th birthday if you prefer hohoho]
I’ve added the snippet of the radio so follow along!

– Birthday special!

Horie(Reading out the script): “Starchild Hour, Horie Yui’s Tenshi no Tamago! Tonight we’ll be doing a… Birthday… Special… H-How exciting…”
Horie: Umm… I really have no idea what’s coming up next so… Until someone gives me some instructions I can’t really do anything… Well for now I’ll just drink some champagne…
*Phone starts ringing*
Horie: Mmm? What are you doing? Who are you calling?? *Nervous laugh* What are you doing?! Who are you calling!?? Who are you calling?!?!
*Phone gets picked up*
Horie: He–
??: Hello?
Horie: Hello!
??: Yes?
Horie: Yes!
??: Konbanten! (The radio’s greeting, a mixture of “konbanwa[good afternoon]” and the “ten” in “Tenshi no Tamago”)
Horie: Ah! Konbanten!
??: Ah I’m from Tokyo and my TenTama name(Pen name used for the show) is Tomo-san.
Horie: Ah, hi!
Tomo-san: Hi, happy birthday!
Horie: Oh, thanks! *laughs* Wait a moment– Umm, sorry about this but I haven’t been told anything so umm… Thanks.
Tomo-san: Congratulations.
Horie: Thanks!
Tomo-san: I’ll always be supporting you, good luck with everything!
Horie: Ah thanks! Umm, thank you and… See you again! Thanks!
*Call ends*
Horie: What are you doing?! Why are you just calling random people?! Hold on, wait wait, *laughs* Why are you calling random listeners of the radio?! Why?! Stop! Why??

– Second phone call!

*Phone starts ringing again*
Horie: Huh?! Why?
??: Hello who is this calling?
Horie: Er, hi this is Horie Yui.
??: Ah, konbanten~
Horie: Eh? Konbanten!
??: Hi…
Horie: Huh, did you know about the call beforehand??
??: Huh?? Umm… *laughs* This is a shock!
Horie: Huh?
??: You surprised me.
Horie: “Surprised”? *laughs*
??: Well of course I would be!
*They both laugh*
Horie: Huh? Wasn’t this supposed to be a surprise for me only??
??: Nope I’m also surprised here.
Horie: Same here–
??: Ah, congratulations on your birthday!
Horie: Oh, umm, ah, thanks! Well please message the radio again~
??: Okay~
Horie: Thanks!
*Phone call ends*
Horie: Huh? What is this?! Why are you calling random people! Hey! Will I be doing this for the whole time?? Huh?? What kind of people are you calling??
Staff: The next one is a home number.
Horie: Huh? Home number?

– Third phone call!

Horie: Ah, hello?
??: Hello?
Horie: Umm this is Horie Yui…
??: Konbanten~ Happy birthday! I’m Maaya!
Horie: Thanks! ..Hmm??
Maaya: Happy birthday!
Horie: Thank you, umm… Err.. Thank you.
*Maaya laughs*
Horie: What was your TenTama name?
Maaya: Ah, it’s Maaya~
Horie: Maaya-san? Eh? How old are you?
Maaya: Eh? 14 years old~
Horie: Huh? 14?! That’s a surprise *laughs* Wait a moment! Umm, really thank you!
*Maaya laughs*
Horie: What is this?! Umm well thanks a lot!
Maaya: No problem!
Horie: Ahh, well is it alright if we do this?
Maaya: Yup!
Horie: Aiming at your heart—
Maaya: Angel Beam! [Catch phrase of the radio]
*They both laugh*
Horie: Thanks! Thanks so much!
Maaya: Not at all~
Horie: With that, please continue to support the radio~
Maaya: Okay~
Horie: Thank you for the birthday wishes~
*Call ends*
Horie: Wow! Everyone says “konbanten”! *Laughs* They’re some great listeners! They’ve been listening to me talk about nothing on this show for a year! The whole time! There are actually people who have! *laughs* We’re over our 50th episode aren’t we *laughs* Listening to over 50 episodes… That’s great~
*Phone starts ringing…*

Maaya was just a random listener but a 14 year old listener must have really given her a shock haha.

– Fourth call! Wait does this voice sound familiar….?

??: Hello!
Horie: Ah, hello! My name is Horie Yui…
??: Hmm? …Nice to meet you~
Horie: Nice to meet you~
??: Umm congratulations on your birthday~
Horie: Thank you! Umm, could I have your name?
??: *laughs* …Tamura Yukari.
*Horie screams in laughter, Yukarin laughs as well*
Horie: No way!!! *laughs* No wayyy!!
*They both laugh*
Horie: Yukari-tan!! What are you doing?!?!
Yukari: I don’t know! I just randomly got this call out of nowhere and it was you and it was your birthday and all–
Horie: As if!! You’re lying!!
Yukari: It’s true!
Horie: *laughs* Just earlier we were…! Why didnt you say anything!?
Yukari: Huh?! Of course I wouldn’t say anything! *laughs*
Horie: Why?!
Yukari: As if I could say something about this!
Horie: We were just together earlier too!
Yukari: Wait, ah! Yeah, I wanted to give you a surprise on this special day~ Yeah that’s it.
Horie: *Laughs* What a surprise! Oh and… Sorry for not recognising you from your voice! *laughs*
*Yukari laughs*
Yukari: That’s horrible!
Horie: Sorry! Wait, a lot has been happening, I’ll tell you about it later *laughs*
Yukari: Really??
Horie: But we just saw each other earlier! Why didn’t you tell me!!
Yukari: I wouldn’t! I was actually grinning about this the whole day today!
Horie: You were! *laughs* I thought you were grinning about something else!
Yukari: *laughs* Well I was grinning at other things as well though~
Horie: You were grinning the whole time! Eh from when were you lying to me? Oh? Yukari-tan’s photos are here in the room? *laughs*
Yukari: *laughs* Yeah, they’re for your birthday present!
Horie: This? This photo? The poster? Ah, when was it being released? September the…. Third! Nemureru—Nemurenu Yoru ni Tsukamaete—[Tamura Yukari’s fifth single] Ah it’s already out!
Yukari: Ah I just gave you it didn’t I?
Horie: Yeah you gave it to me *laughs*
Yukari: You don’t need it now! Give it back!
Horie: No- wait–
Yukari: Give it back!
Horie: I won’t! *laughs* I’m happy to have it~ but wait, I was gonna give you something as well but I forgot *laughs*
Yukari: Give it back! I’ll give yours back as well! That thing with the CD. *laughs*
Horie: The big one right? *laughs* No, no no! But your single’s been released right?? I’ll play it on the radio today! …Sorry I don’t know if it’s actually okay for me to do that though *laughs*
*Yukari laughs*
Horie: Sorry! I’ll play it for three months!
Yukari: Isn’t that a bit too much?
Horie: No, but I haven’t been told a thing about today!
Yukari: Yup~
Horie: Then suddenly I’ve been told to do all these things and I’m so confused!
Yukari: Hmm… Well play nice with everyone there~!
Horie: Umm.. I… Will… Oh, Yukari-tan?
Yukari: Yup?
Horie: Aiming at your heart—?
Yukari: An—Horessu! [Yukarin just makes up something random lol]
*They both laugh*
Horie: You started saying it for a moment there didn’t you?
*They both laugh*
Yukari: I won’t say it!
Horie: Why?!
Yukari: Can I say it then?
Horie: Say what?
Yukari: Your catchphrase.
Horie: Hmm?
Yukari: Aiming at your heart—
Horie: Angel Beam… Right?
Yukari: You’re not putting much energy into it…
*They both laugh*
Horie: Wait you’re wrong! It’s that… Well thanks though Yukari-tan!
Yukari: Not at all~ Do your best~
Horie: Thanks~ I’ll mail you later~ *laughs*
Yukari: *laughs* Okay~ See you later then~
Horie: See you~
Yukari: Bye bye~

Horie: Right and so that was Tamura Yukari with a release date of September the third for Nemurenu Yoru wo Tsukamaete *laughs* Thanks Yukari-tan! Ahh what a surprise! What was that?! She didn’t say a thing to me! We were with each other just earlier! Just earlier! *laughs* Well with that I’ll put on a song, released on September the third *laughs* Tamura Yukari-san’s Nemurenu Yoru wo Tsukamaete.

Hocchan’s reaction upon finding out it was Yukarin on the other side of the line was priceless lol! You could so hear Yukarin’s mischievous thinking start clicking into action when she realised Hocchan had no idea who it was once Horie introduced herself to her ahaha. These two are so close, I’ve said this elsewhere before but although Nana x Yukarin is super popular due to Nanoha and all that… Yui x Yukarin is where true love lies! ♥

On a side note, one thing I love about these topic focused posts rather than the normal radio posts is that I get the chance to write about other seiyuu I haven’t quite written anything about on the blog at all. Horie Yui was pretty much the first seiyuu I’ve ever followed so she has a special place in my heart <3.
Also I get to stick the audio on the post so people can follow along~ Actually this is a good time to address a point I’ve been wanting to talk about for a while, I don’t really like attaching radio episodes here due to a few reasons:

1. Links break!
2. I don’t always save the radio onto my computer.
3. They sell these things…

But radio snippets are different so I’ve got no qualms about sticking them up here~

There was alot of talk about her AnimeExpo trip in this episode, dedicating about 40 minutes of the show on her “America trip report”

– She starts off saying the introduction and greeting “hellloo Otsuerrii etc.” in a heavy gaijin accent lol, looks like she’s still in the engl/rish mood hah.

– Is that Imai Asami outside the window there?

– KitaEri starts showing her photos she took in America from her camera.

– She explains that she was there at AX as part of ToraDora’s cast along with Horie Yui but Kugimiya Rie couldn’t make it due to some IdolMaster scheduling conflicts :O

– KitaEri mumbles that her trip there with Horie Yui was a bit honeymoon-ish before cutting herself off lol. They did go to Univevrsal Studios and other tourist places together didn’t they <3

– KitaEri played Monster Hunter on the Narita Express train. She shows a photo of her pink(?) PSP. (Or is it red due to the video?)

– It’s hard to see the photos since shes showing them to the camera from her camera screen =/

– KitaEri sat next to Hocchan on the plane

– KitaEri notes that Hocchan tried her best to stay up all night before the trip to prepare herself for the inflight sleep. By the time KitaEri had put on her seat belt Hocchan was already sleeping, which KitaEri found amusing.

– Hocchan slept with her head resting on a pillow on the side of her neck, to which KitaEri was worried that it might put a crick in her neck, the pillow then fell off and KitaEri picked it up and gave it back to Hocchan to which she thanked her and put the pillow back in it’s same place and fell back to sleep, which she thought was cute, she then realised that she probably shouldn’t stare at her too much (lol) and started playing her DS.

– KitaEri slept on a King Sized bed in the hotel and commented on how big it was.

– KitaEri was so excited to go around the US with Hocchan.

– Lots of talk about her experience going around the area on the day before the event.

– Lots of talk about Cosplayers on the day of the event.

– She mentions the K-On itasha she saw on the day. She also talks about the popularity of K-On, Key and Angel Beats there.

– She shows a picture of her with a person in a full body costume and then reads out the mail sent in by that person. Whoever it is must be pretty happy <3

– KitaEri was surprised at the size of the refrigerator doors in the supermarket.

– KitaEri read another mail from an overseas fan from AX :O

– KitaEri notes how surprising it was that everyone’s japanese there was really good.

– KitaEri was afraid that no one would know who she was when she went there but was happy to find out that everyone recognised her and her work <3

– KitaEri notes that she would really like to come again next year :O

– Lol Itou Kanae’s ChoRaji Girls ad is hilarious ahaha. Voiced by Itou Kanae: “(said in a child’s voice) On the outside she looks like a child, inside she’s like a child, her name is Itou Kanae!— HEY HOLD ON! (switch to mature voice) I can be pretty amazing in front of a microphone”

And that ends the Anime Expo talk for a while. The rest of the episode introduces a guest and then it goes back into a few minutes of listener mail.

It seems that Hocchan may have mentioned the AnimeExpo trip on her radio show as well, though I haven’t checked for sure. There sure were alot of mentions of Hocchan in this episode (and alot of HOCCHAN HOA HOA HOAA HOCCHAN screams lol), I love how KitaEri fangirls over Hocchan <3
